“For Last and Forever”
Dark club outfit Azar Swan are set to release their sophomore album, And Blow Us a Kiss, on October 23 through Zoo Music (the label co-founded by Dum Dum Girls' Dee Dee Penny). "For Last and Forever" builds upon their industrial pop template while fortifying their sonics, no doubt influenced by an appreciation of modern hip-hop. This is, after all, the group that recorded the gothiest re-make of Ace Hood's "Bugatti". Here, the duo of ex-Religious to Damn members—vocalist Zohra Atash and producer Josh Strawn (also of Vaura and Vain Warr)—plunge further into the murky depths of after-hours raging.
Strawn's production sounds like The-Dream and Partynextdoor hanging out with Dom Fernow, morphing normally uplifting rave surges and claps into instruments of despair. Distorted basslines also serve as support for Atash's vocals, and while the stuff of Big Black and Godflesh might not make for conventional dance music, this is not the Electric Zoo we're talking about here.
